Helpful Tips

Preparing for your portrait:

Clothing: Medium to dark tones of brown, gray, burgundy, green or blue generally look the best in portraits. Exceptions to the rule does sometimes work.
When working with large family groups where children, grandchildren and spouses are together, try to prepare the colors to represent the different family groupings keeping the tone flowing throughout the entire portrait. Stripes and loud patterns may not be a good idea. Long sleeve shirts are usually better than short or no sleeves. Be sure to dress from head to toe where as many poses will include your feet.

Tans: tan lines and sunburn are not included in standard portrait retouching and could get quite expensive so be careful.

Hair: Wear your hair the way you naturally wear it and don’t try something “new” for your portraits. Hair cuts should be scheduled to be done no closer than one week of your scheduled appointment. Men should be clean shave and facial hair neatly groomed. Five o-clock shadows cannot be removed!

Make-up: It is recommended that you apply your make up on naturally. If you don’t normally use makeup then apply a light foundation or powder to help reduce shine.

Glasses: Lens glare can become an expensive fix so please consult your optometrist for a pair of empty frames for your portrait.
